Ice Dam Melting Socks
Roof ice dams are an annoying source of roof damage, leaks, and heat loss in the winter.
The main causes are drip melt from improperly capped warm air vent pipes and poor roof insulation.
Laying a snow melt sock onto the roof so it crosses the ice dam and overhangs the gutter
will melt through the snow and ice and create a channel for water to flow down into the gutters or off the roof.
If you already have an ice dam, do not get up on the roof and try to break it up with a hammer, ice chopper, or ax. You will damage your roofing by taking the grit off the shingles or even breaking them. If you have an ice dam, the only thing you can do is use ROOFICE.. Fill the ROOFICE with salt or a chemical ice-melter. Put them on the roof so they run up the roof, over the ice dam and to the lower edge of the roof. This ROOFICE will melt through the ice dam and make a path for the melting snow to run off the roof. Put several of these on the roof to make several channels for the water to run off.
The salt or chemical will not hurt the roof.
You have more of a chance of damage from the ice if it is left in place.

YOU CAN FILL THEM WITH NON-STAINING OFF THE SHELF ICE MELT
Simply open the velcro strap at the top of the sock, fill with off the shelf "ice melt" from any hardware store, and reclose the strap tightly above the bottom knots on the yellow pull cord, attach your own nylon throw cord and throw or place at troubled roof areas where ice dams are evident. Allow the throw cord to hang over the edge of the roof,
Leave in place all winter or use 20 foot pull cord (NOT INCLUDED) to retrieve.
